From 22 to 25 May 2014, the citizens in the 28 Member States of the European Union are called on to vote for the members of the European Parliament. These include some 40 million voters, farmers, workers and family workers, who are active in agriculture. These people form an important part of the voters in the European Union.
The European Social Partners in Agriculture call on their members to vote in the European elections.
The European Social Partners in Agriculture – GEOPA-COPA on behalf of employers and EFFAT on behalf of workers – declare that:
- Europe is of the utmost importance to those who are active in the agricultural sector.
- Agricultural activity secures enough food for the European population and secures the jobs of millions working in the agricultural sector and in the sectors linked to it.
- The community of the European Union is one of the key elements in solving problems in farming and in rural areas and must defend the interests of the agricultural world. This is the case both within the European Union and also in international commercial relations.
- Europe must coordinate social cohesion, and tackle the distortion of competition and social dumping.
With this declaration the Social Partners call on EU citizens and their members to participate in the European elections in consideration of the importance of the EU Parliament.
