Tourism is one of the few sectors of the European economy with a high potential for growth and job creation as well as for development and socio-economic integration, particularly in rural areas and underdeveloped regions. The sector accounts for 5% of GDP and overall employment. Europe’s hotel, restaurant and catering sector features 1.8 million companies employing almost 10 million people.
Given the high percentage of atypical employment in the tourism sector, the EFFAT mission is to fight precarious work and promote decent and fair employment conditions. EFFAT activities include furthering and recognising qualifications and skills, as well as encouraging socially responsible and sustainable tourism.
