EFFAT and FoodDrinkEurope launch toolbox of good practices in attracting new and managing old workforce in the food and drink industry

EFFAT and FoodDrinkEurope gathered in Brussels to present the results of their research project: “Bringing in new talent and managing an ageing workforce: two sides of the same coin – implementing good practices for a more attractive food and drink sector.
The results, included in a toolbox report, builds on a previous joint study revealing that that the food and drink manufacturing and processing sector, is not perceived as an attractive choice for workers despite its resilience through the economic and financial crisis.
Against this backdrop the toolbox shines a light on a series of good examples and case studies for trade unions and workers’ representatives across the food and drink, providing an opportunity to share, develop and consolidate sustainable practices on:
recruiting both young people and key groups experiencing an employment gap to the sector at all levels (production, administration, management, research and innovation) and improving training, apprenticeship and succession planning.
retaining older workers in employment in terms of good practice in age management, better job opportunities and working conditions for older workers.
The presentation of the toolbox will be followed by a conference in Bratislava which will close the EFFAT/FoodDrinkEurope joint project.
