Take action

The European Commission is finally ready to listen to workers and citizens.

In January 2016, three EFFAT member organisations filed petitions to the European Parliament’s Petition Committee:

On 5th July the College of Commissioners is expected to present its decision on the legal nature of the EU-Canada free trade deal.

On the fifth anniversary of ILO Convention C189 on decent work for domestic workers adopted on 16 June 2011, the International Domestic Workers Federation (IDWF), which affiliated as a special group to the IUF in May 2014, launched the “My Fair Home” Campaign, asking employers of domestic workers to sign a pledge with which they commit to ensure decent work for domestic workers.

EFFAT has received from the European Transport Workers’ Federation (ETF) an appeal to support the European Citizens’ Initiative Fair Transport Europe and we are asking your support to collect 1 million signatures by 14th September. Transport is vital to all Europeans.

It takes us to where we need to go, delivers our goods and creates economic growth.

The Swedish Food Workers Union (Livs) is fighting plans to shut down the Findus frozen food factory in Bjuv, which would throw 450 workers out of a job and devastate the many hundreds of farmers who supply the plant.

EFFAT and its social partners HOTREC have jointly issues a pledge to enhace quality and attractiveness of apprenticeships schemes in the European hotel and restaurant sector! We need your voice!
FoodDrinkEurope and EFFAT are aiming to respond to one of the greatest challenges facing Europe today: a lack of skills and job opportunities. Together they created the pledge ”An appetite for the future: Youth apprenticeships in the food and drink industry” to provide high quality apprenticeship and traineeship positions.

EFFAT is the European Federation of Food, Agriculture and Tourism Trade Unions. As a European Trade Union Federation representing 120 national trade unions from 35 European countries, EFFAT defends the interests of more than 22 million workers towards the European Institutions, European employers’ associations and transnational companies.
